New trained and dedicated Stephen Ministers are needed to serve
members of Peace Lutheran Church, and to replace Stephen Ministers
moving away or retiring from active caregiving each year. If you
feel Stephen Ministry may be right for you, ask yourself whether
weekly meetings with a care receiver, plus twice-monthly continuing
education and peer support sessions, will fit your schedule/life
style. If so...
1.
Contact Larry Crowell (830-620-6126,
jolar@satx.rr.com), Becky Krogness (830-620-1922,
rkrogness@satx.rr.com), or any other
Stephen Minister to obtain and
fill out
an application form.
2.
You’ll be interviewed by a pair of Stephen
Leaders to assess your aptitude for and commitment to the
Stephen-Ministry model of continuing, confidential one-to-one
caregiving.
3.
Once accepted, you’ll get 50 hours
of formal training, plus related homework/preparation. Books
and materials will be provided. Training typically begins in
early October. Attendance is mandatory;
absences must be made up.
4. When training concludes
you'll be commissioned as a Stephen Minister at Peace Lutheran
Church.
5.
You’ll attend twice-monthly Supervision meetings for continuing
education and peer discussions to
enhance your ministry skills and support each others’caregiving.
These meetings have been held on
Thursday evenings at the church. Except for unavoidable
absences, attendance is mandatory.
6.
You’ll meet regularly with a care receiver
after assignment. Such meetings are typically an hour long
each week; You and your care receiver will establish when and
where.
7.
When your care receiver no longer needs a
Stephen Minister, regular meetings will taper off and stop.
Some time will pass, typically, before you’re assigned a new
care receiver.
