The main focus of this window is the red cross growing out of the open Bible in the center of the window. The open Bible is a symbol of God’s active revelation to His creation, and that the pinnacle of His revelation is found in His son Jesus Christ. The cross is predominantly red to illustrate the redemptive blood shed by Jesus while hanging on the cross. Having a rainbow arc across the top portion of the cross further emphasizes this concept of redemption. The rainbow serves to remind us that the promises of God are just as reliable as God is reliable. The rainbow in particular to this design is meant to convey that the promise of redemption can only be fulfilled through Christ, and that His one time sacrifice is sufficient to reestablish the broken relationship between man and God. A closer inspection of the cross reveals that it forms the shape of an anchor. The anchor in Christian art tradition is the symbol of a Christian’s hope in Christ, (Heb. 6:17-20.) Christ serves as an anchor by reassuring His followers that no matter how much turmoil and difficulties arise in life that He is always there to keep them grounded to the sturdiness of God. Superimposed with the Bible is the symbol of a heart. This heart symbolizes the new life given to Christians through Christ; a life full of love and compassion. When viewed in relation to the entire window the heart reminds the Christian that their life of compassion is recognized when they commit to spreading the hope, sharing the promises, and become an instrument of God’s revelation. Extending from the center of the window are eight rays of light. Eight is the number of regeneration and these rays represent the regenerated life God gives to Christians, and the Christians responsibility to go out into the darkness and live a life of light.
